The VMAS 2013 Red Carpet

Hey loves!

I apologize for being away for so long but I was on vacation and I couldn't find ANY time to settle down and type down a well-deserved post my readers needed so today's the day I do! I've been literally counting down the minutes until the VMA's and been anxiously voting for my favorite artists(& by favorite artists, I mean just Iggy Azalea & 1D). What got me so hyped up about this event was because of the red carpet. This applies to every award show. In today's post, there will be 2 sections; best-dressed & not so-best-dressed. Now let's get started!

Best Dressed:

1. Iggy Azalea.

In Emilio Pucci
Not to sound bias or anything, but Iggy Azalea could make a potato sack look amazing. She's always gorgeous. Nonetheless, Iggy looked absolutely stunning in gold. The perfect mix of class & sex-appeal.

2. Selena Gomez.

In Versace
What can I say? Selena Gomez has definitely outdone herself this time! She looked absolutely sultry in Versace.  Her deep red lipstick definitely complimented her navy dress. The bustier under her dress really completed the outfit. Can you say LOVE?!

3. Ellie Goulding.
In  Amato Haute Couture by Furne One
Ellie's dress was absolutely jaw dropping. The spikes, the thigh-high slit, the heels, her makeup, EVERYTHING was flawless. Need I say more?! This dress speaks for itself!

Not So-Best-Dressed:

1. Lil' Kim.

I really don't know where Lil' Kim was going with this outfit. I really don't. It's all wrong. That huge camel toe isn't working for her, either.

2. Miley Cyrus.

In Dolce & Gabbana

I honestly expected more from Miley. I know she's trying to aim for that 'unique & edgy' thing but I wasn't a huge fan of the bedazzled crop top and leggings, especially not for an awards show. Her performance wasn't my favorite either. As much as I love Miley, she just put the trash in trashy that night and I'm sure everyone's  still trying to recover from her cringe-worthy performance.

3. Katy Perry.

I tried my best to like this outfit, I really did. Her dress fits perfectly with her 'Roar' theme, I won't argue with that but it just didn't work out! And what's up with those gold dragon flies and the turtle neck? Thankfully, her great legs make up for this outfit!

& that concludes today's post! I'm sure opinions differ so if you thought otherwise, please be sure to state them in either the comments or on ask.fm POLITELY or just don't state them at all! Thankyou.

July Favorites 2013!

Hello dolls!

All this Vimto and samboosa has definitely had an impact on me! I just get lazier during Ramadan. Is it just me? I hope not! With summer almost over, what better way to end it than with a July favorites post?! So let's get started!

1. One by One by Maybelline
I purchased this mascara on a whim during an outing with friends and since then it has quickly climbed its way up on my(imaginary) 'favorite drugstore mascaras' list! It gives a false-lash effect and is great in the lengthening department. Unfortunately, it lacks in the thickening department but it's great nonetheless! I recommend this mascara for anyone looking for a everyday drugstore mascara. Worth a try.

2. Labello Lip Butter
I have to say, I was without a doubt incredibly excited when I heard that these bad boys were launched in Bahrain! Instead of going out to the nearest drugstore and picking one up, I decided to steal it from a friend. 'Cause you know, yolo? I have the one in Raspberry Rose & I'm excited to try out the Vanilla & Macadamia flavor.  It moisturizers my lips and gives a slight shine. Prefer this over the Maybelline Baby Lips!

3. Especially Escada Elixir

I've always been a huge fan of Escada perfumes so getting hooked onto this perfume after one spritz wasn't such a surprise to me. It has this sweet-floral scene that is just PERFECT for summer which quickly made this perfume my summer staple. Not to mention that I'm also in love with the packaging! Escada has won me over yet again.

4. Game of Thrones

I've constantly been reminded of how amazing this show us from friends, family, & celebrities! I wasn't so sure I was going to like it but I've been hooked on the plot after watching just one episode. A quite epic show, no wonder it's been rated 9.4/10 on IMDB!

5. Richard Madden

Need I say more?! This fine human being has won my heart the minute I started watching Game of Thrones. He plays his character flawlessly AND he has a Scottish accent. It can't get any better than that.

6. The Fishtail Braid

I know what you're saying.. 'WHAT, FATEN?! THAT SEEMS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. WHY WASTE YOUR TIME ON A HAIRSTYLE?!' Okay, maybe you're not saying that but still... Not only is this hairstyle extremely easy but it looks extremely pretty. I'm in love with the effortless boho feel this braid gives off. Can't wait to sport this in school!

& that concludes this post! To be honest with you all, the reason behind not having many beauty/fashion favorites or posts is because I've been spending this month in my cave(aka room) and catching up with The Vampire Diaries. But I'll make it up to you like I always do, promise!

How To: Enhance Your Best Features(Makeup Edition)

Hey dolls!

I've recently been noticing that many, and I mean many, girls use makeup just to cover while the main use of it is to ENHANCE. Every girl out there has at least one physical attribute that she absolutely adores about herself so why not enhance it!? In today's post, I'm going to be covering the facial features and how to enhance it with the swipe of a brush.

Now let's get to it!

Eyes:

For many people out their, the eyes are their favorite attribute. If you happen to be one of those people, here's how to make your big/small/colored eyes POP:

Big Eyes: You can make big eyes pop by curling your lashes. Yes, curling your lashes makes a huge difference. It'll open up your eyes even more & makes you seem more youthful!
Also adding a lot of mascara and lining your eyes thinly with liquid eyeliner will give you a doll-eyed effect.

To Create The Illusion of Bigger Eyes: use white eyeliner on your waterline. Not only will this make you seem bright-eyed but it's perfect for the days where you lack your 8 hour beauty sleep(which for me, is everyday).

Small Eyes: Small eyes can be so sexy & sultry if done correctly! Black pencil liner is your best friend. Line your upper & lower waterline for a sweet yet sultry day time look. Adding dark colors on the lower lash line makes your eyes look absolutely gorgeous and it's the best tip I can give to you small-eyed gals!

Colored Eyes:
BROWN: Peach, blue, copper/bronze, green, & gold eyeshadows/liners.
GREEN: Purple, plum, browns & gold eyeshadows/liners.
BLUE: Purple, green, & black eyeshadows/liners.

Nose:

Finding girls that actually like their NATURAL nose is pretty rare but if you're one of the blessed ones out there, then here's how to enhance it:

- Add a shimmery highlight to the bridge of your nose. Not only will this make it seem slimmer but also catch the light and reflect some sparkle!

If you're not blessed with a Cara Delevigne nose then here's how to fake it;

- Contour your nose. Yep, just like how you'd usually contour your cheekbones. Take a matte bronzer or a medium-brown matte eyeshadow on a fluffy blending brush and contour the sides of your nose but please girls, blend.. What we're doing here is creating the illusion of shadows. Shadows = slimmer nose.
- Highlight your nose with a MATTE highlighter. A great matte highlighter is the Dream Lumi by Maybelline or the Touche Eclat by YSL. If you don't wanna splurge, just use a concealer at least 2 shades lighter than your actual skintone.

Lips:

My favorite makeup product probably has to be lipstick. The amount of lipsticks I own is probably unhealthy  and yet, I always seem to find myself buying more. The main reasons being because I love anything and everything that brings attention to my lips. Honestly, what's better than the perfect pout?! If you're born and blessed with kissable lips, here's how to enhance them:

- Red lipstick is your best friend. Remember that. If you're too scared to go bold, opt for a hot pink lip - toned down yet sassy.
- Always use a lip scrub. Please ladies, treat your lips with respect. Don't neglect them.
- Continuous moisturizing with lip balm is a must.

How To Create The Illusion of Pouty Lips:
- Apply lip gloss or a lighter lipstick just on the middle of your bottom lip!
- Highlight your cupid's bow with a highlighter.
- Line your lips with a lip liner. You don't  need to get a lip liner in every lipstick shade out there, just buy 1 neutral shade and you're good to go, no matter what the color lipstick. For bigger looking lips, SLIGHTLY outline your lips and overdraw your cupid's bow.
- If you have small thin lips, steer away from dark & vampy lipsticks. They're a big no-no.
- Apply a tad bit of cinnamon to your lips. It gives a tingly sensation and causes your lips to slightly puff  up for a while.
- Try out lip plumpers like The Sexy Mother Pucker from Soap & Glory or Too Faced's Lip Injection.

Cheekbones:
I'm envious of every girl with cheekbones. There's something about cheekbones that I find so attractive - whether it's on a guy or a girl. Here's how to fake it without going under the knife:

- Contouring is your best friend. Use a matte bronzer with a small & defined brush to get right into the hallows of the cheeks. Start from the back and make sure it's darker around there then blend out(do NOT get it too close to your mouth).
- Another way of contouring is to contour using a darker foundation or concealer. Keep the line fairly harsh then follow up with your regular foundation routine. This looks so much more natural but advanced and requires a lot of practice to perfect.
- Highlight your cheekbones! Matte or shimmery, it doesn't matter.

How To Enhance Natural Cheekbones:
 - There is not much I can say since you're already lucky but for the extra mile, highlight your cheekbones to make them pop.

Eyebrows:

To me, gorgeous well-defined brows are essential to complete a look. I prefer thick brows but others may prefer thinner brows so I can't really advice you on this topic other than; don't neglect your brows. Always fill them in, get them threaded frequently and use a shade that MATCHES your hair color and doesn't look to harsh on your face.
If you need more assistance, here's a great video to help you out.

"Your eyebrows can make or break you."

Legs:

If you were not born with long legs, there's not much you can do about it unless you work out and slim your legs so there's not much advice I can give you here.
But if you're someone who loves showing off your legs, here's how to make them extra jaw-dropping:

- Add body shimmer or bronzer to the middle of your legs.
- TAN YOUR LEGS. Tan legs are happy legs. You can either naturally tan or use a self-tanning lotion like one from St. Tropez or Victoria's Secret.

I hope I covered everything & anything! If there's something I missed, please do inform me & I'll be more than happy to help to advice you! Don't forget to tell me if you liked this segment & if I should do one about fashion as well.

June Favorites 2013

Hello gorgeous!

I apologize for the belated June Favorites but believe me, this 1 & a half week of summer has been pretty hectic! I expected to have a lot of free time on my hands in the time span of these two months but boy, I was wrong! Of course, even during the most hectic of times, I have to remember that I AM a part-time fashion & beauty guru so expect some exciting new posts to turn you into an improved version of yourself before September!  & a couple D.I.Y. posts to occupy you during this 90-day holiday. Anyways, here's everything I've been loving the past month;

JUNE FAVORITES

1. Liner Plume by Lancome

It's no surprise that the Art Liner by Lancome is my all-time favorite liquid eyeliner. This eyeliner is pretty much the Art Liner in a simpler & more convenient marker tube. This eyeliner is perfect for the people who seem to lack the skill of applying eyeliner(me, being one of those people). It has the perfect pigmentation with it's ultra-black liner and provides ease with it's foam-tip applicator. It is UK & Asia exclusive & unfortunately, is also limited edition. They don't sell it in Bahrain anymore (tear tear) but I'm sure you can find it online.

2. Ke$ha - Crazy Kids ft. Will.I.Am.

Ke$ha's new song just screams late nights in summer & making memories! I have a feeling if I listen to this song in a couple of years, it's going to be absolutely nostalgic. You'll definitely find this song blasting at one of the many parties you'll be attending this summer. #1 song on my Summer 2013 playlist.

3. High-Low Skirts

Skirt from ASOS
High-Low skirts have been a summer closet staple piece! You can wear this trend with literally anything and it'll definitely dress up a plain t-shirt. The breezy hemlines and comfort of this skirt just makes it so easy for me to love it. These skirts have dominated our favorite high street stores such as F21, H&M, Zara, etc. Not only have I been loving these but so are our favorite fashionistas like Lauren Conrad & Miley Cyrus.

4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service by OPI
The minute I set eyes on this gorgeous nail polish, I just knew that I couldn't live without it. The picture above does not give this nail polish justice. I, myself, cannot even begin to break down the colors of this nail polish. It can look like a deep purple, charcoal grey & can even look holographic in some lighting! In every lighting, this nail polish seems to look like a completely different color and the golden glitters in this nail polish just makes it sparkle like a disco ball.

5. The Sweethearts Collection from Bath & Body Works
The new collection from our beloved BBW has me hooked. The Sweetheart collection is how summer & happiness would smell like, if summer & happiness was a scent. My favorite scents from the 3 have to be Daisy & Honey.

6. Maybelline Color Sensational in 190 Atomic Pink

I'm surprised I haven't mentioned this lipstick in any of my favorites yet! This lipstick is definitely my favorite lipstick of all-time and probably the only thing I wear, no matter the season. The perfect shade of pink & red flatters all  skintones. It's the creamiest and most hydrating consistency I've ever come across, especially since it's so pigmented and bold! It also smells so sensational(see what I did there?) which is a plus. Did I mention it's drugstore, too?!

7. AWKWARD.

Besides Gossip Girl, no show has ever got me this addicted. I'm really picky when it comes to TV shows because I tend to get bored really easily. But the minute I watched the first episode of the first season, I just couldn't stop. I finished all the 3 seasons in 1 day & a half and I'm on my toes waiting for the next episode of season 3 coming in October! + Beau Mirchoff is a babe, can you say eye candy?!

8. My Report Card
Finals week is known to be the toughest and most stressful week out of the whole school year but thankfully, all that stress & hardwork paid off! I passed with flying colors and I am so proud of myself! & so are my family! Grade 9, bring it on!

DIY: Acid Wash Jeans!

Hey readers,
I'm an 80's girl at heart, and when I found out acid wash was having a comeback, the 80's girl in me shined through! I'm so excited! Probably my favorite trend of the year.
      If you're like me, and you easily get bored with your basic blue jeans, then this is how to bring some sass to your basic denim;

YOU'LL NEED:

- A bucket filled with water. I filled mine with about 15 cups, it all depends on the size of your bucket.
- Bleach(Clorox)
- A dark pair of jeans
- A box of rubber bands
- A pair of gloves
- Measuring cup
- A well ventilated area(outside)

Step 1: Bunch up your jeans and tie them with a rubber band. Keep bunching, twisting, and tying your jeans until you get to the waist.
(P.S. Ignore my sexy pjs)

Keep doing what you're doing...

After finishing one leg, it should look like this;

Do the same exact thing to the other leg, it doesn't have to be perfect. The end result should look like this;
Then finally secure the whole thing with 1 rubber band so it doesn't end up falling apart!

Step 2: Add bleach to the water in your bucket. I added 6 cups, which is a bit less than half of the amount of water already in the bucket. DO NOT add too much bleach to your mixture unless you want the bleach to weaken the jeans and eventually cause a hole.

Step 3: This is the part where you need your gloves! Put them on and then soak the jeans into the water+bleach mixture.
Some parts of the jeans wouldn't get submerged into the mixture. No worries, just flip the side over after about half an hour. As I said, DO NOT add any more bleach to the mixture even if the whole pair of jeans isn't submerged. Patience, grasshopper.

If your jeans are submerged, keep them in the mixture for about an hour. If they aren't, keep 1 side for half an hour and do the same to the other side.

Step 4: Wash out as much bleach as you can in your bath tub or sink or even with a garden hose.
Yes, it looks like urine. I know.
Step 5: Cut all the rubber bands.

Step 6: Put your jeans in your washing machine, with cold water for at least 10 minutes. Do not add any soap.

Step 7: Either hang your jeans out to dry or throw them in the dryer!

TAA-DAA!

You can now strut your stuff in your fabulous revamped pair of jeans!
Enjoy!x

Don't forget to send me your recreations on Instagram, fatenfraidoon@gmail.com or on Twitter!

Summer 2013 Must-Haves!

Hello loves!

With summer right around the corner, I figured this would be the PERFECT post for all you readers.

I'm not gonna bore y'all with an introduction so let's just get on with the post, shall we?

SUMMER 2013 MUST-HAVES

1.  Flower Power!

It doesn't matter how you decide to wear the floral trend, I'm sure any girl can rock this oh-so stylish print.
This pattern has dominated the racks in all our favourite high street clothing brands so luckily for you, you can find this pretty much anywhere, even your grandmother's closet.

My Favorite: Pants.

2. TRIBALTRIBALTRIBAL

To me, tribal print just screams summer especially when it's bright & flirty like the picture above!
Just like the floral print trend, the tribal print trend can also be on any article of clothing, even your nails!

My Favorite: Leggings, rompers & nails.

3. Espadrilles!

You can find these shoes in every pattern and colour to suit every girl's taste but this unique pair by Chanel has certainly caught my eye!
Definitely on my wishlist.

4. Bustiers To Boot!

And no, I don't mean the bustiers women used to wear under their dresses during the Victorian times.
Bustier tops or 'bralets' seem to be everywhere in Topshop this season and believe me, I am not complaining!
You can pair these babies with everything, a high-low skirt, or a high-waisted pair of shorts/jeans.

& last but certainly not least...

5. Toast To A Bright Tote.

A bright tote is a must-have during every summer season, no matter what year!
They're the perfect bag to carry all the useless crap us girls seem to lug around.
& Oh boy, this barbie pink Marc Jacobs tote seems to be screaming my name!
Hey mum...

That concludes today's post & I really hope you all enjoyed it! Stay tuned for the upcoming summer-related posts but until then, you know where to find me!

Review: Coastal Scents

Calling all makeup addicts!

This post has to be the most requested out of all & it is the awaited Coastal Scents review.
Before we get into this post, I would like to say that I am not sponsored of affiliated by Coastal Scents. It's only one of my favourite AND affordable makeup brands of all time so I decided to share my opinion & experiences with the Coastal Scents products.

I am going to be reviewing:
- Eclipse Concealer Palette.
- 88 Original Palette.
- 28 Neutral Palette.
- 10 Blush Palette.
- 22 Piece Brush Set.

Eclipse Concealer Palette:

Retails at: 14.95$

This concealer palette is probably my favourite out of all the palettes. The concealers are so creamy and blends flawlessly. It works for almost all skin types(Dry, oily, normal) and is ideal for covering up imperfections and under eye circles.
Other than the 11 skin tone colors to choose from, there are also 4 other shades. There's green, lavender, yellow, & a shimmery white.
Green is used to cover up any redness. Just apply the green on your red pimples or around you nose and then follow up with your regular concealer & foundation routine.
Lavender is used to balance out any yellow tones and to brighten up a sallow complexion and again, follow up with your regular concealer & foundation routine.
Yellow is used to contract any purple-ish tones around the face(veins, and dark-purple under eye circles), follow up with your regular concealer & foundation routine.
White - shimmery color is used to highlight! It doesn't really conceal anything. Just apply some on where light usually hits your face so that means your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, brow bone, cupids bow and on your chin and forehead if you don't have oily skin.
Purchase this palette here.

88 Original Palette:

Retails at: 18.95$
This palette is my least used and least favourite palette out of all, to be honest. I'm not a huge fan of these bright colours in the palette but I still feel that this palette is an essential for every makeup fanatic out there.
It has average pigmentation on it's own but with a base, the colours are very vivid. It has a long lasting power, too.  Lasts for about a lifetime.
Purchase this palette here.

28 Neutral Palette:

Retails at 18.95$
This is my favourite eyeshadow palette that I've tried so far and although I don't tend to wear a lot of eyeshadow, I usually gravitate to this when I feel like putting some eyeshadow on.
It has better pigmentation that the 88 Original Palette and bigger eyeshadow pans.
A good MAC alternative.
Purchase this palette here.

10 Blush Palette:
Retails at 15.95$

I love this palette! It's quite inexpensive for 10 blushes that are pretty big, too. With this palette, I'm spoiled with choice! I try out a new blush colour almost everyday.
There are 4 matte(my favourite) and 6 shimmery blushes.
Some can even be used as bronzer!
Purchase this palette here.

22 Piece Brush Set:
Retails at 34.95$
This is a bit pricey compared to most of the palettes but if you think of it, it's actually very cheap for 22 GOOD quality brushes.
They don't shed and apply makeup flawlessly. They don't lose their shape after washing, either.
If you're starting off with makeup and want to build up your brush collection, I'd definitely recommend this and has almost every brush you need(& more!)
Purchase this set here.

I hope you all benefited from this post and please tell me if you ever end up buying these palettes!
Also, Coastal Scents has A LOT of sales so be sure to check out their website daily or just subscribe to their newsletter.
& lucky for you, all these palettes are currently on sale(Except for the concealer palette)!
